Uwatec Digital Depth Gauge
jon egil strand
This one has all the information you need. Perfect! It s robust, easy to operate, precise and minimalistic. Thumbs up!
Not for freediving!
Be aware that this is ONLY any use as a current/real-time depth gauge for free diving! The timer is no good for free diving as it operates in whole minutes only. The dive log is no good for free diving because only dives LONGER than 2 minutes are logged. Also, surface time of more than 5 minutes is required to ‘clear’ the maximum depth figure – otherwise the figures just get added on. Finally it’s quite a large piece of kit as far as free diving goes (imagine a pot of honey strapped to your wrist – well, not quite but you get the idea!) Good point: the comment above about battery life needs context – the battery lasts 11 years based on 100 dives of 45 MINUTES EACH!! So, not so bad……..
Great piece of equipment. There is however some modifications to do before taking it out on a dive. Cut the straps off, and replace them with bungee coord (make 4 holes through the rubber). It is way much easier and convinient to get it on and off, and it won t break. The strap on this is too short to fit easily when wearing a drysuit, well, atleast my arms with much thermal protection up here in Sweden. One also would like to avoid fiddeling with the strap when wearing those thick gloves. Much more convinient with bungee, trust me. I know i hurts to cut on a new bottom timer, but it is well worth it.
I like it very much, very easy to use and accurate.
It is THE bottom timer to buy. Inexpensive, indestructable, easily visible and really accurate. Only problem is the ascent rate indicator but you should know how to ascend anyway. Scubastore were great I recieved this from Europe to N.America in 3 days!!! Why would you shop any where else? Thumbs up!
Uwatec digital depth
This is a great asset to anyone s dive kit. It s only offered in metric and can t be switched to an imperial display. Apparently Uwatec/Scubapro are dividing their N. American market away from this unit and steering them toward their more expensive multi-purpose computers. Shame... But conversion isn t that difficult.
reliability and design foolproof. a good instrument before buying a computer.
Not suited for freediving
Only display time in minutes. Also max depth disappers when at the surface. This and a standard digital watch can work for freediving ;)
