Omer New Tekno Bag
Olivier from london
I bought this bag from diveinn/ scubastore for a trip to Indonesia (Gili Islands). I was looking for the ideal travel bags for freediving excursions: ideally a North Face quality dry-bag which is big enough to contain freediving fins. Although I did not expect the Omer to be as good a quality as North Face (clearly not in the same price league), the new Omer Tekno bag fell way short of my expectations. On the positive side, it s a good size bag and could carry my Gara200HF comfortably. That s all for the positive. The build quality is very poor: although I did not carry too much gear in the bag (17kg overall weight including the bag itself which does not sounds excessive given the size of the bag), the stitches for the handles started to rip even before I got into the taxi to go to the airport (I am not exaggerating, less than 200m walk). I had to be very careful for the rest of the trip when handling the bag and barely manage to make it back to London with the handles still attached to the bag. Even the back strap could not take the load and were slipping constantly. Also, I was expecting the New Tekno Omer to be a dry-bag (or at least spray proof) and was very surprised after the speedboat trip back from Gili to find the inside of the bag socked with sea water. As indicated by Giuseppe, this is not a dry-bag. Worst, given the zip is the weak point, if water penetrates through the zip, the water is trapped inside the bag! My brother who travelled with me had a Quechua backpack (not protected with rain cover as we did not expect the sea to be so rough before getting on the boat) and his stuff was far less humid than mine after the crossing (both bags were positioned side by side on the roof of the boat). In conclusion, I was very disappointed with my purchase and certainly expected a bit better for the price (at least I thought the bag would last more than 5mn before starting to rip off). If you are looking to carry more than simply your freediving fins, a mask and a snorkel, I would NOT recommend purchasing this bag. I would also be very interested in suggestions about the ideal ?adventure travel bag for freediving enthusiast?.
