Yeah I can't tell from this description either what these are. What really is "wavy" diving? Is this some sort of technical term I haven't heard yet? Better description is needed. Basically you're saying these are just for "shits and giggles" right?

This is a great fin for mastering your form, but if you are experienced you will desire more snap. If you have never swam with a monofin before you should try it. You will find your self swimming at unbelievable speeds with almost no effort at all. Why not try one instead of leaving ignorant comments.

So, if it's that great why out of thousands of divers I've seen nobody uses it?

Hey monofins are just great. Nic is right, you do feel just like a dolfin. you can zoom through the water like a really cute dolfin. And if you make a dolfin noise too it makes you feel even more like one EEE EEE AIII AIII. See, I feel just like one now. Wow, I love dolfins they are really great they are sooo cute and they like to eat fish and chocolate but they dont get much choloate because they are mostly in the sea. I guess you dont get much chocolate in the sea.

I live in Turkey and this site is the only one I found helpful about monofins's sale so.. thanx. But (I know this is not your fault) am I a bankrupt or ARE MONOFINS EXTREMELY EXPENSÝVE? I'd be glad if anyone could tell me where I can find a more rational kind of monofin.

I bought these fins after trying a pair in the pool where i live. Im amazed how many ignorant reviews monofins get on this site.

visit the freediver website (www.freediver.co.uk) for more info on using this type of fin. they're also used for various competitions (dynamic apnea and with a front snorkel by finswimmers) and were primarily developed by russian swimmers. they are THE most fun to use and give a feeling of extreme freedom, especially when freediving and stretching out into a long form, whereupon you can undulate and mimic the action of a dolphin. a lot of power and a lot of grace. get em now!

Monofins are not big in the U.S. because freediving competetion is not popular here. ive seen them and borrowed a pair of my buddies. i like them to practice in but not for spearfishing. they are fun to play around in.

About Monofins: Monofins are a russian invention dating form the late 60's. The difference with the "stereo"-fins you're probably used to, is that the Monofin technique enables the swimmer to transmit a more powerfull stroke to a larger fin surface. Monofin-equipped swimmers routinely make 13-minute miles over the water in long-distance races. Over or under the water, they're the world's fastest swimmers. Some reach speeds of 7.5 miles-per-hour (12.2 kilometers-per-hour.) The donwnside of the Monofin is that it is more difficult to control in turns and breaks than stereofins, as unlike dolphins, we lack the breast "flippers". Then, the dolphin-like wavy kick requires your whole body to ondulate, which is quite difficult when wearing cumbersome BC, tanks and belts. This is why Monofins are more frequently used in freediving/snorkeling or Monofin-races.

How does this fin compare with the more expensive models featured here?... Are the other models worth the extra expense?... (And why is shipping so damn expensive?!...) Would love to have an excellent pair... without going bankrupt!

I'm one of them who was a champion in my country in monofin-raceing. Swimming with monofins the best thing ever, so Bob and the other ignorent people why don't you just borrow it ones from someone, probably you would discover few more muscles on your body, plus if you want to pick up something from 20 feet below you'll see how easy it is. Other case I'm a divemaster now and I still prefer the regular fins for scubadiving.

I have a fin like this that i bought in 1997. I have used it very little due to a very narrow foot pocket. The size reads 42-45, but I''m 42,5, and can''t take more than half an hour before my feet get numb. Swimming with the fin is very comfortable, but unfortunately the foot pockets kill me
